Linfield avenged their Irish League title loss to Glentoran with an emphatic win to cruise through to the Setanta Cup final against Shelbourne at Tolka Park on Saturday night.

Needing only a draw, Blues sealed their final place by half-time with goals from Paul McAreavey, after five minutes and William Murphy, on 28 minutes.

Glen Ferguson added the third two minutes before the break.
Tim Mouncey made it 4-0 on 54 minutes before Darren Lockhart and Shaun Holmes got Glens’ consolation goals inside the last half hour.

Linfield finished top of Group 1 on nine points and with the same number of goals scored from their four matches, an intriguing final is in store at the weekend.
