A controversial goal by Jamie Harris has put Shelbourne in pole position to win Setanta Cup Group 2 as they beat Cork City 1-0 tonight.
A header by Harris from a Stuart Byrne cross on 52 minutes appeared to have been punched off the line by City keeper Michael Devine but linesman Eamon Shanks gave the goal.
Devine twice rescued Cork in the first half with good stops from Alan Moore and Harris, but it was Cork who missed the best chance.
That came on 23 minutes when Liam Kearney beat Owen Heary to cross and Denis Behan planted his free header wide. In a hectic second half, Roy O’Donovan came close to equalising on 71 minutes when his header came back off the Shels bar.
Cork must now beat Portadown by two clear goals in the final match in the group if they are to overtake Shelbourne and make the final.
