Longford 1-0 Glentoran
Glentoran, fresh from their Irish league victory against Linfield on Saturday came to Longford in buoyant mood for tonight's Setanta Cup group one clash with their Eircom League opponents, but were brought crashing back down to earth by a fired up home side.
Shane Barrett had a couple of first half chances for the dominant midlanders but they were almost caught napping just 4 minutes before the break when Darren Lockhart, put through by Gavin Melaugh, was narrowly off target when it looked certain that the visitors would take the lead.
A 0-0 draw was looking increasingly more likely as the game petered out somewhat in the second half.
However Stephen Paisley popped up with just a minute of normal time remaining to head home from Alan Kirby’s pinpoint cross.
The defender proceeded to celebrate by removing his shirt and was duly sent off by Dublin referee Dave McKeon for a second bookable offence.
Portadown 0-1 Shelbourne
Shelbourne took all three points at Shamrock Park in tonight's Setanta Cup group 2 clash with a 1-0 victory.
Jason Byrne was the difference between the two teams, scoring the all-important winner in the fourth minute.
Wes Houlihan burst down the left wing and the diminutive midfielder had enough time to cross for Jason Byrne to head home.
Shelbourne are the first side to win away in the competition and are now back on track to qualify from Group two.
