Want-away Celtic striker Juninho has taken a swipe at the club and at manager Martin O'Neill as he prepares to bid farewell to the Scottish Premier League.

The Brazilian forward, whose move to Parkhead from  Middlesbrough has been a flop, is expected to complete a move to his homeland this week when he agrees a pay-off to end the last year of his contract with the Hoops.

Palmeiras are the favourites to land the World Cup winner who insists he never stood a chance in Scotland.

Juninho said: "I want to go back to Brazil and play football. I adapted to English football and I thought the style would be the same in Scotland."

The Brazilian hit out at O'Neill, saying: "I waited and tried to adapt but the coaches and players have a different way of thinking here. The coach asked me to act outside my natural instincts."

"Here it is not in the mentality to pass the ball in midfield. It goes directly to the attack and it makes it difficult for midfield players," he added.

Although now close to a return to South America, Juninho insists it was not his intention to go home yet. He added: "I wanted to play another one or two years in Europe but people have to search for happiness."
