Rafael Benitez must count the cost of victory in the 201st Merseyside derby as Liverpool's injury list gained four new names.
It was news Benitez could have done without, but the manager was nonetheless delighted with the 2-1 victory over Everton, which lifted Liverpool to within four points of their neighbours in the battle for fourth place.
"This is the Liverpool I would like to see in all the games, the same mentality," said Benitez.
"We played a fantastic game in the first half with a high tempo, good passing, good counter attacking, good tackling and pressing, and we scored two fine goals."
As well as Milan Baros facing three matches on the sidelines for the red card which followed his high challenge on Alan Stubbs, Benitez could be without a quartet of key men for several weeks.
Baros will miss league games against Bolton, Manchester City and Tottenham, while Dietmar Hamann could miss the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Juventus with a knee problem.
Stephen Warnock, John Arne Riise and Luis Garcia, who all have ankle injuries, are each likely to face a fortnight out of action, perhaps even making them doubts for the first Juventus match on April 5.
Similarly, Fernando Morientes has an thigh muscle strain which will make him unavailable for at least the next two weeks.
The four injured players would seem likely to miss Liverpool's next game, at home to Bolton on April 2.
Luis Garcia, who scored Liverpool's second goal, would have been substituted with his ankle problem, but Benitez had used up his allocation of three replacements inside the first half and the winger had to carry on.
Now Benitez is virtually stripped bare of strikers, with Djibril Cisse, Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Neil Mellor out for the season and Harry Kewell still at least three weeks away from recovery from ankle and Achilles troubles.
