Ireland's Clinton Morrison has been assured he has a future at Birmingham by manager Steve Bruce despite losing his place to the Emile Heskey-Walter Pandiani strike partnership.

Morrison looked to have finally sealed his place in December and early January after returning to the side following a knee injury but the arrival of Robbie Blake from Burnley and Pandiani, on loan from Deportivo La Coruna, has seen him slip down the pecking order.

But Bruce has spoken with the Republic of Ireland international and wants him to sign a new contract.

Morrison, whose current deal runs out in the summer of 2006, said: "I played the best football of my career this season but have to accept that the gaffer has gone for Walter and Emile up front in recent matches."

"I am the sort of character who will show the right attitude, work hard and scrap for a place in the team and I have the faith in my ability. Of course, I am disappointed not to have been starting but I am not the sort to sulk and a striker has to have the belief that he is the best and you have to prove that."

Morrison is hoping he will start Sunday's home derby with Aston Villa although Bruce is likely to keep faith with Pandiani and Heskey.
