Dundalk Football Club has begun work on the re-development of Oriel Park with the preparation of the ground for the installation of a new, all-weather artificial playing surface.
The pitch, the first of its kind in Ireland, will cost 1.5 million euro.
It should allow the club to save on maintenance fees and should also mean the club will be able to rent the ground.
The contracts were signed for the new surface today and it is expected the pitch will be ready for playing by Easter.
