Returning Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson has assured Stefan Klos he has no designs on the captaincy of the club.

The Scotland international is set to celebrate his 27th birthday tomorrow as a substitute in the CIS Insurance Cup semi-final against Dundee United at Hampden Park.

Ferguson has re-signed for the Ibrox club on a five-and-a-half year deal after 15 months with Blackburn in the Barclays Premiership.

Now he is determined to prove his worth to all Rangers fans, although he insists he will be happy to work under stand-in skipper Alex Rae, while Klos recovers from knee ligament damage.

As far as the captaincy goes, Stefan is the captain and I was very sorry to hear about his injury,” said Ferguson.

“That means that Alex Rae is the captain now and I am perfectly happy with that.

“It was great to be captain of Rangers and Blackburn but I am not interested in taking the armband back from him.”
