Portsmouth striker Lomana LuaLua has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association for his reaction to receiving a red card against Blackburn on Saturday.
The 24-year-old was dismissed for an off-the-ball incident with Rovers' Andy Todd, with television replays appearing to show he headbutted the defender.
The former Newcastle player has vowed to fight any ban.
Signed from the Magpies for £1.7million this summer after a successful loan spell last year, Lua Lua was already suspended for three matches following his sending-off in the 1-0 defeat against Mark Hughes' side.
The Congo striker had just returned from an ear infection suffered during the clash with Liverpool before Christmas, but could now be banned for further matches if he is found guilty of the improper conduct charge.
Last month the striker was charged with abusive behaviour by the FA over alleged gestures towards the crowd at Middlesbrough in October.
