Premier Division champions Shelbourne took two of the main prizes at the eircom/Soccer Writer's Association of Ireland Awards ceremony which was held in the European Capital of Culture, Cork.

Shels manager Pat Fenlon was named Personality of Year while Steve Williams was given the Goalkeepers' Award.

Cork legend Noel Cantwell, who captained Manchester United to the FA Cup in 1963, was the guest of honour at the event.

The special merit award was given to former footballer and Cork Examiner writer Willie Cotter. During a long career, he played for AOH, Cork United, Waterford and Cork Athletic where he won a League medal in 1950 and a League and FAI Cup double in 1951.

It was the 44th year of the awards and the first time the ceremony has been held outside Dublin.
