Dublin City Council has repossessed Shamrock Rovers' unfinished stadium in Tallaght and plan to finish construction using Government funding.
Planning permission for the stadium, on which on significant work has taken place in three years, was granted in January 1998.
The GAA were interested in investing in the stadium, with the goal of making it a second ground to Parnell Park and reviving football and hurling in the south of the city.
However, the objective now is to finish the stadium and install Rovers there.
