Liverpool have completed the signing of Argentinian defender Mauricio Pellegrino from Spanish champions Valencia.

The thirty-three year old signed a six-month contract with the option of another year after passing a medical in Liverpool earlier today.

Pellegrino started his career with top Argentinian side Velez Sarsfields where he played for eight seasons before moving to La Liga to join Barcelona in 1998.

After helping Barcelona to a league Championship, Pellegrino moved to Valencia in 1999 where he was part of the Valencia team that reached the 2000 Champions League final.

Valencia returned to Champions League final in 2001 and lost for the second year in a row with Pellegrino missing a penalty in the shootout.

Pellegrino now moves to Liverpool to link up with former manager Rafael Benitez bringing with him a wealth of experience including three La Liga championships and the Copa Libertadores Cup.
