Boumsong unlikely to become a Geordie

Losing patience: Graeme Souness

Rangers are unlikely to have the cash to move for  £2.5million-rated Belgian striker Thomas Buffel after Graeme Souness insisted he will not be making a third bid for Jean-Alain Boumsong.

The Newcastle manager confirmed he has made two offers for the France international defender – an £8million bid is still on the table.

The hard-up Ibrox club have slapped a £10million price tag on Boumsong but Souness has warned he will walk away from the deal and is already in talks with an alternative target.

He told the Daily Record: “We have made two offers but Rangers have rejected them. We are now pursuing another target.”

“It would be wrong to say our interest in Boumsong is dead but what I will say quite definitely is that there will be no third offer for the player.”
