Mourinho hails Duff's contribution

Arjen Robben may have been getting all the plaudits so far this season for Chelsea but manager Jose Mourinho insists Damien Duff's contribution should not be overlooked.

The Republic of Ireland international has opened the scoring for the Blues four times in their last six games, and Mourinho has acknowledged his contribution with a glowing tribute to the winger.

On the eve of today's highly-anticipated clash with Arsenal today, the Blues boss said:  "Maybe he won't be the first one to score at Highbury but he has been playing some very good football for us both in attack and in defence.

"Everyone has been talking about Robben but Duff has played an important part for us. I am very happy with his contribution."

Mourinho is certain to play Duff and Robben together against Arsenal, with Didier Drogba taking the lone striker's role instead of Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Duff's goalscoring form has been a huge boost to Mourinho and Robben's emergence has given Chelsea an attacking force which has left most of their Premiership opponents struggling to contain the twin wingers.

Duff himself has benefited from a long pre-season campaign after suffering with a shoulder problem last time around.

Now the Rathfarnham man is hoping he stays injury-free and continue a strike rate that would put many orthodox strikers to shame.

Duff said: "I had a long pre-season and the training's top-notch with the gaffer. I feel great and I think it shows. I've scored a few and set up a few this season.

"Last season I did my shoulder and it was downhill all the way after January. It caused a lot of problems, but that's all sorted, and, touch wood, I won't have any more injuries.

Robben, meanwhile, echoed his manager's words by insisting the Chelsea players are not feeling the pressure at the top of the table.

"There is a lot of talk about us being under pressure because we are top of the table," the Dutch star said.

"There is pressure on us every time we play, yet we are handling it very well. We have to continue like this.

"I came to Chelsea to win trophies and, after the start we've made, we're in a good position. I fear no defender in the Premiership.

"Every opponent has his weak points and you always have to look for them. I always trust my own ability and quality.

"But if I start a match worrying about how tough a game will be because the defender is tough, then I had better stay in the dressing room."

Mourinho has an almost full squad to choose from today, with only German international Robert Huth sidelined.

He's almost certain to recall Claude Makelele with Tiago back in the starting line-up instead of Wayne Bridge.

Fredrik Ljungberg is back in contention for Arsenal after missing the midweek Champions League victory against Rosenborg with an acute migrane.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger must decide between goalkeepers Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia.

The Frenchman is still without Pascal Cygan, Edu and Gilberto Silva through injury, while Patrick Vieira is suspended.
