Argentina forward Carlos Tevez has completed a €13 million move from Boca Juniors to Brazilian side Corinthians.
The surprise transfer is a record for a Brazilian club.
It also breaks the trend of South America's top players going straight to European clubs.
The 20-year-old is regarded as Argentine's most exciting young player and has attracted interest from a number of European clubs.
Tevez was leading scorer in this year's Olympic soccer tournament with eight goals as he helped Argentina win their first gold medal in the sport.
He also led his club to the South American Libertadores Cup title in 2003 and the runners-up spot this year.
He has become a regular in Argentina's senior side and scored his first international goal in the Copa America quarter-final against hosts Peru, his free kick sealing a 1-0 win.
Tevez comes from a humble background and still bears the scars of a household accident he suffered as a child.
He has become increasingly frustrated at coverage of his private life and has been involved in angry exchanges with photographers.
