Delaney lands FAI interim role

The Football Association of Ireland this evening announced that John Delaney had agreed to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer on an interim basis with immediate effect.
 
Making the announcement,  FAI President Milo Corcoran said that he was confident that Delaney's appointment would provide the stability which the Association needs in the immediate future.

Mr Corcoran said: "John Delaney brings to the position of Chief Executive Officer a wealth of experience and knowledge from within football and a very successful track record as a businessman".   

"I know that John will enjoy widespread respect not just from within the football community but from the world of business also, as he deals with the issues and challenges which face the Association in the immediate future", he added. 

"Among the Association's key priorities will be to work hard on our relationships with Government, sponsors, staff, those who play our game and our fans", said Mr Corcoran.

Mr Corcoran thanked Mr Delaney's employers, ABX Logistics for their cooperation and understanding in facilitating John taking up the position at this time.
 
Mr Delaney said he looked forward to working with the Board, the Council and the staff of the FAI in an executive capacity.  "I look forward to meeting the challenges which lie ahead and particularly to continuing our engagement with Government and the Irish Sports Council in the interest of all involved in Irish football," he added.
 
John Delaney will hold a Press Conference in the Martello Suite, Jury's Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 at 11am on tomorrow Friday, 26th November 2004.
