A last-gasp goal from Jonathan Hayes saw Seán McCaffrey's Republic of Ireland under-19 side beat Russia 2-1 in Limassol, Cyrpus to send them through to the second qualifying phase of the UEFA Championship.
It was a remarkable turnaround for McCaffrey's youngsters, who suffered a demoralising 1-0 defeat to Cyprus in Larnaca on Wednesday, meaning only a win today would suffice for qualification.
Arsenal's Patrick Gregg had given the Irish the lead when he slotted home a 48th minute penalty. However, the Russians equalised with a spot-kick of their own eleven minutes later through Taranov.
But, with the match in injury-time, Gregg crossed for Reading player Hayes, who headed home at the far post in the 92nd minute.
