Police are investigating claims that Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane assaulted a teenage boy, according to a report in today's Daily Mirror.
The Irish international ace is alleged to have clashed with the 16-year-old near his house in Hale, Greater Manchester on September 4.
According to the report, the bust-up happened as Keane was returning home after walking one of his dogs at a local golf course. The youth claims that a scuffle broke out and a chain necklace was ripped from his neck.
Police said: "Police in Trafford are investigating reports that a 16-year-old boy was assaulted on Saturday 4 September 2004."
"The incident occurred on Merrydale in Hale shortly after 5.30pm. Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing."
Keane refused to answer questions from the media over the alleged assault as he flew to France with his Old Trafford team-mates, in preparation for their Champions League clash with Lyon.
