Bohemians 0 – 1 Kildare County
Shay Zellor was the hero with the only goal to dump Bohemians out of the third round of the FAI Cup tonight to give Kildare County the biggest win in their short history. Zeller tapped into an unguarded net on 40 minutes as Shay Kelly was left stranded as he came to meet Darren McKenna’s ball forward. Bohs’ Dominic Foley and Tony Grant missed sitters while James Keddy and Colin Hawkins hit the woodwork in the second half. Thomas Heary was then sent off in stoppage time to just about sum up Bohs night.
Athlone Town 1 - 0 Cobh Ramblers
Athlone got their revenge for a 5-0 drubbing in the league earlier in the season to dump First Division rivals Cobh out of the FAI Cup. Adrian Murphy came close after ten minutes when heading wide from a corner as Town had the best of the first half. The only goal of the game came two minutes into the second half when skipper Tom Silke rose well to head home Stephen Gavin’s perfectly flighted corner.
Drogheda United 2 – 0 St. Patrick’s Athletic
St. Pat’s keeper Chris Adamson had a night to forget as goals from John Lester and Declan O’Brien put Drogheda safely through to the quarter-finals. Adamson was caught stranded from his area as Lester scored a bizarre goal, heading home from all of 40 yards out, to put Drogheda in front on 53 minutes. O’Brien availed of a further error by Adamson, who spilled Alan Reilly’s corner, to bundled the ball home for the second goal on 67 minutes.
UCD 5 – 0 Drumcondra
It was all too easy for UCD as they waltzed into the last eight against the LSL minnnows. College took 27 minutes to break Drums' resistance with Patrick Sullivan finishing off a good move involving Alan McNally and Sean Finn. Pat McWalter then punished poor defender to nick the ball on the edge of the area and fire home the second on 35 minutes. Mick O’Donnell added a third just before half time to end the match as a contest. Captain Tony McDonnell and Robbie Martin scored further goals in the second half.
Waterford United 7 – 2 Kilkenny
Daryl Murphy scored four times - including a hat-trick inside four minutes - and Willie Bruton also hit a treble as Blues blew Cats away in this amazing match at the RSC. Murphy celebrated his recall to the Irish under-21 squad with the opener on 22 minutes. Keith Maher levelled and Niall Andrews then put Cats ahead inside 35 minutes before Blues stormed back with Bruton scoring twice to give them a 3-2 half time lead. Bruton completed his hat-trick five minutes into the second half. Murphy then blitzed Cats with his quick fire hat-trick between the 60 and 64th minutes.
