Eircom League leaders Shelbourne recorded a creditable result in Croatia tonight and have given themselves a great chance of advancing to the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

Shelbourne took the lead after just four minutes through Glen Fitzpatrick, before Bosnian international Dragan Blatnjak levelled matters on 18 minutes.

Stuart Byrne had a glorious chance before the break, but his close range header missed the target.

The Croats took the initiative after the interval, Pettar Suto making it 2-1 with a shot from 10 yards.

Jason Byrne struck the crossbar with an audacious volley from 20 yards, before Blatnak scored his second to make it 3-1.

Shelbourne showed immense character to score another vital away goal. Substitute Ger McCarthy headed the ball to Alan Moore at the back post who showed great composure to drill home an important goal.
