Chelsea turn attentions to Benfica midfielder

Chelsea are considering a transfer swoop for Benfica midfielder Tiago, according to the club's chief executive Peter Kenyon.

Despite their huge transfer budget, Chelsea have been unable to recruit their first choice midfielders, with Steven Gerrard, David Beckham and now seemingly Deco all giving them the cold shoulder.

The Blues have now turned their attention to Tiago, a 23-year-old Benfica midfielder who is a fringe member of Portugal's Euro 2004 squad.

Kenyon was quoted in the Portueguese media as saying: "In the position he plays Tiago has been identified as one of three possible solutions to Chelsea's needs. Tiago is one of three possibilities."
