Shamrock Rovers' Trevor Molloy has been named as the eircom/Soccer Writers Association Player of the Month for May.

Molloy previously won the award in October 1998 as a St Patrick's Athletic player. Last month, Molloy scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win against Derry City and was instrumental in the 3-0 victory over Shelbourne.

Molloy, 27, was delighted with his reward. "This award is for Shamrock Rovers, the coaches, Liam (Buckley) and all the players," he said.

"I didn’t really expect it, I hadn’t scored too many goals but I’ve put in a lot of work and it’s nice that it’s been seen. I’m delighted to get the trophy again."

Molloy is in his second spell with Rovers, the club where he began his career.
