Torres does not expect to start

Spanish striker Fernando Torres admits he does not expect to be in the starting line-up when his side kick off their Euro 2004 campaign against Russia on Saturday. Torres came on as a second-half substitute during Spain's 4-0 win over Andorra at the weekend. With Fernando Morientes scoring Spain's opening goal as well as Juan Carlos Valeron turning in an impressive performance, he believes it will be hard to break into Inaki Saez's starting XI.

The 20-year-old Atletico Madrid captain said: "I am competing against Morientes and Valeron and we are all fighting to get Raul's place. I think it depends on what the coach wants in every game to put in one player or another and in the end those who play are those who have earned it."
