St Patrick’s Athletic and Waterford United have been awarded ‘A’ licences to participate in UEFA competitions next season, provided they use an alternative licensed stadium.
This brings to five the number of eircom League clubs who have achieved their ‘A’ licences, with Bohemians, Cork City, Derry City and Shelbourne also included.
Two further clubs, Longford Town and Waterford United, have been awarded ‘A’ licences, under financial, legal, administrative and sporting criteria. This means that both are entitled to compete in European competitions provided they play at an alternative licensed stadium.
UEFA is set to announce the final standings in their Fair Play League within the next few days and Ireland will be one of the national associations who will go into a draw for the remaining two places in the UEFA Cup.
On the Fair Play basis, St Pat's could join Shels, Bohs, Cork City and Longford in Europe this year.
