Celtic defender Stanislav Varga is ready to pledge his future to the Scottish Premier League champions by signing a new contract, his agent has revealed.

The former Sunderland man was originally brought to Glasgow from Sunderland on a short-term deal but has proven to be a highly influential player for the Bhoys and his consistency looks set to be rewarded with a new deal.

Varga's agent Tony McGill said: "I've been in talks with Celtic in recent weeks and Stan should sign the new contract before the cup final."

"I've had several enquiries from clubs asking me about Stan on the back of his form for Celtic this season, but he has always said he wanted to stay at Celtic and the club has been great for him," he added.

"Martin took a gamble by bringing him here in the first place but it has worked well for both parties."
