Arsenal's historic run to be recognised

Arsenal's historic unbeaten run through the Premiership season is to be recognised by the Premier League, who have commissioned a one-off trophy to mark the achievement.

The trophy will be a replica of the Premier League trophy the Gunners collected at the weekend, but its composition will be reversed with gold replacing silver and vice-versa. The replica will be presented to Arsenal on Saturday.

It has been revealed that Premier League bosses had the idea in the pipeline for a while, but they didn't want to be seen to be presuming Arsene Wenger's side would go unbeaten.

"This award has been under consideration for some time, though the board of the Premier League felt it was inappropriate to come to a decision as to how to honour this achievement before Saturday's game, as it would have prejudged the outcome of a match," said chief executive Richard Scudamore.
