Argentine football legend Diego Maradona was re-admitted to hospital today with his personal doctor, Alfredo Cahe, saying that his weight was causing the star problems. The great Argentinian footballer, now aged 43, was taken by ambulance to the Clinica Suizo Argentina, accompanied by his personal doctor and hospital staff.
Maradona was feared to be on his deathbed last month, after being rushed to hospital with heart and lung trouble, but he recovered sufficiently to be discharged on Thursday.
Since his heyday as captain of Argentina's 1986 World Cup-winning team, and as talisman of the Napoli team which twice won Serie A titles and also claimed a UEFA Cup win, Maradona's health has rapidly declined.
He is known to have had major cocaine addiction problems, and had recently been receiving rehabilitation treatment in Cuba, where he has become an associate of President Fidel Castro.
Cahe, said his patient had been taken to hospital to undergo several health tests before returning to his Cuba base. He also said that Maradona was expected to leave hospital by Saturday at the latest, adding that: "His weight has been the cause of too much tiredness."
