Waterford’s unbeaten start to the eircom League Premier Division season was emphatically ended tonight as old rivals Shamrock Rovers gave themselves a huge morale boost with a rousing win.

Rovers shaded a tight first half to lead 1-0 at the break thanks to Keith O’Halloran's brilliant free kick on 27 minutes.

Shane Robinson tapped in Rovers' second following great work by Trevor Molloy. Robinson’s cross was then turned into his own net by David Breen for the third on the hour before Mark Rutherford scored his first goal for Rovers to complete the rout on 79 minutes.
