Hasselbaink escapes FA punishment

Premiership chasing Chelsea were handed a boost today with the news that Dutch striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been cleared of violent behaviour by an FA disciplinary panel.

Hasselbaink appeared to elbow Scarborough defender Mark Hotte during FA Cup fourth-round tie on January 24 as both players lay on the ground following a tackle during the game, which Chelsea won 1-0 with a goal from John Terry.

Referee Barry Knight missed the incident and so the FA referred the panel to their disciplinary commission, however the case was not proven and Hasselbaink has escaped any punishment.

Hasselbaink scored a hat-trick in his most recent Chelsea appearance, the 5-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and is expected to feature in the Blues' weekend clash with Tottenham. Should Chelsea win that match, they will move four points behind Premiership leaders Arsenal.
