Waterford United's new player manager Alan Reynolds signalled his intent to strengthen the Blues when he and club chairman Ger O'Brien made an audacious attempt to sign Karim el-Khebyr. El-Khebyr who had agreed to re-sign for St Patrick's Athletic on Friday was visited at his Dublin hotel early on Saturday by the duo seeking to secure his services.
Ger O'Brien confirmed the approach saying: "We made contact with Karim knowing he was out of contract. We had an interesting discussion with him at the hotel". "We, Alan and myself let him know where we felt he could fit into our plans and were willing to agree a contract with him. Karim listened and told us that he would consider our offer and let us know in the coming days."
Blues boss Reynolds told soccercentral: " I've been linked with a number of players since being appointed but Karim is the only one I've spoken to". "I've had my eye on him for a few weeks and when I heard he cold be available I decided to try and sign him," he added.
