Villa wrap up Solano transfer

Newcastle midfielder Nolberto Solano has wrapped up his £1.5million move to Aston Villa after signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Villa Park outfit.

The signing of the Peruvian international will come as a major boost to manager David O'Leary, who already has one of the smallest squads in the Premiership, will have to do without some of his most influential players over the next month.

Gavin McCann will start a five-game ban after Saturday's Premiership match at Leicester while Lee Hendrie and Thomas Hitzlsperger are both injured.

Solano is expected to provide the crossing power that would benefit Juan Pablo Angel and Peter Crouch. The player who would look most likely to be under threat from his arrival would be Hendrie as he has been operating on the right flank for the majority of this season.

Solano has featured heavily for Newcastle recently, but has fallen out with manager Bobby Robinson on several ocassions because of his absence on international duty with the Peruvian team for long periods.
