Drogheda manager Paul Doolin has brought his number of close season signings to five with the announcement of the double signing of 21-year-old right-full back David Sullivan and right midfielder Gavin Whelan.
It has been a hectic week for the County Louth club with the arrival of new managing director Michael Cooney and the copper fastening of new contracts for duo Mark Quinless and Gary Cronin.
Sullivan, formerly of Sunderland, played in a summer friendly for Doolin when the former Shelbourne captain was still in charge of UCD last June.
20-year-old Whelan, also a product of Doolin’s Belfield production line, is the son of former Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers’ favourite Paul Whelan and is following in his grandfather Ronnie senior’s footsteps to be the second member of the family to line out in United’s claret and blue.
