United hit back over Blatter criticism

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has hit back at Sepp Blatter's criticism of the club's decision to keep playing Rio Ferdinand despite his failure to take a drugs test in September.

Gill, fresh form securing a new £36million sponsorship deal Vodafone, labelled Blatter's outburst "incomprehensible".

"There have been many comments during the Rio Ferdinand case which have not been very helpful," the man who replaced Peter Kenyon told reporters on Monday morning.

"We are at liberty to keep playing Ferdinand and that is what we are doing. Frankly this is an incomprehensible statement by Sepp Blatter. We are clearly abiding by the rules and the FA have confirmed that."
