Newcastle United defender Andy O'Brien has failed in his bid to overturn the red card he received in the 5-0 defeat to Chelsea last weekend.
The Republic of Ireland star was dismissed by referee Paul Durkin who adjudged that he had hauled Chelsea's Adrian Mutu to the ground.
The appeal to the Football Association was unsuccessful and his suspension now begins on November 23.
West Ham striker Jermain Defoe and Huddersfield's Jonathan Worthington also failed in their appeals against wrongful dismissals in their club's matches against West Brom and Accrington Stanley respectively.
