Thompson set for hamstring scan

Alan Thompson will undergo a scan this afternoon to determine how serious his hamstring injury is after injuring it in Celtic’s 1-0 victory over Rangers on Saturday. Thompson`s involvement in the clash at Ibrox ended after just 24 minutes when he signalled to the Hoops bench that he was experiencing discomfort.

The injury forced manager Martin O`Neill into a quick reshuffle and he was forced to hand Michael Gray his Old Firm derby earlier than planned.

Celtic still managed to take all three points from the game to replace Rangers at the top of the Bank of Scotland Premier League table. But the injury will be a concern for O`Neill, who has been beset by injury woes recently, as well as for Thompson, whose impressive displays have attracted the attention of England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.

There was some good news for O`Neill - Johan Mjallby is expected to make his comeback in next Monday`s under-21 game once he has a week of training under his belt.
