Former Sligo Rovers, Derry City and Finn Harps centre half Gavin Dykes has been appointed the new manager of Derry City FC this afternoon.

Dykes takes over in the wake of last Thursday's resignation of team boss Dermot Keely. Keely tendered his resignation to the Board of Directors stating that he didn't have what was required to secure the Brandywell club's position in the top flight after only three months in charge.

Dykes, who'd been assistant to Keely at the Brandywell and previously with Kildare County, says he has held several meetings with the players over the last few days and is delighted that he has received their unanimous backing.
