UCD defeated Derry City in the battle of the bottom two in the eircom Premier Division tonight while Finn Harps moved into top spot in the first division with victory over Dundalk.
Derry's relegation troubles worsened at the Brandywell when they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of bottom club UCD. Centre-forward Alan Gallen opened the scoring after 28 minutes for the visitors and John Martin doubled that advantage in the 50th minute.
Elsewhere tonight Finn Harps moved to the top of the eircom league First Division with a 2-1 victory over Dundalk. Goals from Jonathan Minnock and Tom Mohan secured the win after Keith Carty had put Dundalk ahead.
