Beckham to risk suspension to face Liechtenstein

England skipper David Beckham is ready to risk suspension in order to lead his side in Wednesday's Euro 2004 qualifier with Liechtenstein. Beckham is one yellow card away from being suspended for England's vital qualifying game with Turkey, and despite being given the chance to sit tomorrow's game out, he insists that he is ready to take the chance.

The Real Madrid ace said: "I think playing on Wednesday is a little bit of a risk but I think it is my sort of decision to play in the game. The manager has asked the players on yellow cards about it and has spoken to all of us about the situation. Obviously there is a certain amount of risk but I want to play in the game and the manager is happy with that."

The game against Liechtenstein will be Beckham's first return to Old Trafford since his summer move to Madrid and he admits that it will be an emotional experience. "I would rather play and it will be nice to play at Old Trafford so soon after moving. I had many great years there and have so many great friends there," he said.

He is also confident that England can get the result they need against Liechtenstein and said: "I am sure the fans would expect a big win and it would be nice to score a few goals. But the important thing is the three points ahead of the Turkey game but we would take a 1-0 win which would set things up for next month."
