Nine-man Galway United battled superbly for a hard fought fourth league win of the season against fellow mid-tablers Cobh Ramblers at Terryland Park tonight.
A listless first half was improved on just three minutes after the interval when an inswinging Tony Folan corner was met by a well-directed header from central defender Conor Frawley for a deserved lead.
Dave Hill's Ramblers had only lost once in their previous six games and were unfortunate on occasions with striker Kieran O'Reilly going close.
An incident ten minutes after the goal saw Galway right back Gary Fitzgerald involved in a scuffle with O'Reilly and both players were dismissed with straight reds. Midfielder Folan also got his marching orders for his part in the ensuing altercation.
The United faithful need not have worried as their charges saw out a tight win which sees them leapfrog Cobh into seventh on goal difference.
