Celtic striker Chris Sutton has been handed an additional one-match ban for bringing the game into disrepute. The Hoops hitman was summoned to appear before the Scottish Football Association General Purposes Committee at Hampden Park this morning following comments he made on the last day of the season.
Following Celtic's win over Kilmarnock he accused Dunfermline of 'lying down' to Rangers to hand them the Scottish Premier League title. Sutton had already been hit with a four-match ban for the two red cards he was given in the tunnel after the Kilmarnock game and knew he would miss the first match of the new season, ironically against Dunfermline.
But Celtic are now set to appeal against today's decision. Andy Barr, head of Celtic PR organisation, said: "Chris Sutton has been given an additional one-match ban. The club is going to consider the full appeals process and will be consulting with club officials and lawyers."
