Keely named as Derry City manager

Former Shelbourne, Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk manager Dermot Keely has been installed as the new manager of Derry City. Keely, who resigned as Kildare County boss at the weekend, will take over a club currently languishing second from bottom in the eircom Premier Division.

Kevin Mahon's reign at the Candystripes ended on Saturday night and Tuesday's 4-0 defeat to Longford was thought to have been the final straw for chairman Jim Roddy.

Keely's first game in charge is against Cobh Ramblers in the FAI Cup on Thursday evening.
