USA goalkeeper Tim Howard has confirmed that he has agreed personal terms with English champions Manchester United.
Howard, 24, said he had been told by the club that an appeal for a work permit had been upheld on Friday and that he would fly to England on Sunday before undergoing medical tests and signing a contract on Monday.
Howard's initial work permit application was denied on a technicality, but went through on Friday after being appealed by the club.
Manchester United will pay Major League Soccer, which owns all player contracts, $2 million for Howard who will earn $1.4 million annually as a base salary with a $1.5 million bonus if he becomes the first choice keeper.
French international Fabien Barthez is the current number one choice at Old Trafford but his form has been erratic.
Howard, 24, made his professional debut at the age of 18 with the New York/New Jersey Metrostars and has played nine times for the US national team.
He will return to the States on Wednesday and will join United in Portland, Oregon, on July 19 as the club opens a four-game tour where they will play Scottish side Celtic and matches against Club America of Mexico, Juventus of Italy and Spanish club Barcelona.
