Damiano to link up with Houllier

Liverpool are set to apoint former Fulham assistant manager Christian Damiano as their new first team coach.

Damiano will take over from fellow Frenchman Jacques Crevoisier, who yesterday announced that would be leaving the coaching post and returning to France for family reasons.

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has worked with Damiano in the past, and he was Houllier's assistant during his time in charge of the French international youth squad when the pair took the under-18s to victory in the 1996 European youth championships.

Damiano has also worked with former French senior team managers AimeJacquet and Roger Lemerre, and Houllier is looking forward to linking up with the coach again.

"All things being well, Christian will join us for next season. He's an excellent coach who is responsible for helping to nurture some of the biggest talents in France, including Thierry Henry and William Gallas," Houllier said.
