Savage is Blues' Player of the Year

Robbie Savage has been named as Birmingham City's Player of the Year after his debut season for the Blues. Savage moved across the Midlands from Leicester City last summer in a £2million deal and his combative approach has quickly made him a hero with the Blues' fans.

But the Welsh international, who again reaffirmed his decision to sign for City for the rest of his career, also believes he has produced his best ever football. Savage played in 33 games for Birmingham this season and managed to chip in with four goals.

He said: “It's a big thrill for me to have been voted Player of the Year in my first season. It's been a great move for me coming to Birmingham and I say again that I would love to finish my career here. I think I've played my best football this season and I am already excited about next season and the future of the club."

Republic of Ireland skipper Kenny Cunningham had been manager Steve Bruce's choice for player of the season but he has lost out to 28-year-old Savage. Meanwhile, as expected, Christophe Dugarry is set to sign a new one year deal with the club on the pitch before Sunday's final home game with West Ham.
