There were wins for Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers in Group 5 of the eircom League Cup tonight. Sligo Rovers overcame Galway United 3-2 at the Showgrounds. Barry Moran hit the opener for Galway but Stephen Mullan pulled one back for Sligo on the stroke of half time. Paul McTiernan then edged the home side in front on 52 minutes before Barry Moran levelled matters in the 78th minute. But John Jordan made sure of the win with a 82nd minute strike.
In the other Cup tie at the Carlisle Grounds, Shamrock Rovers beat Bray Wanderers 3-0 – thanks to goals from Tony Grant (23), Glen Fitzpatrick (54) and Paul Caffrey (83).
