Carr named in PFA Team of the Year

Republic of Ireland international Stephen Carr was named in the Professional Footballers' Association Premier League Team of the Year. The Tottenham Hotspur fullback was named alongside Arsenal defenders Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell, and Chelsea defender William Gallas.

In total five Arsenal players were named on the team. Arsenal striker Thierry Henry was named in attack alongside Newcastle's Alan Shearer. In midfield, Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires were named alongside Newcastle United's Kieron Dyer and Manchester United's Paul Scholes. Blackburn's highly impressive goalkeeper Brad Friedel completed the line-up.

Former Republic of Ireland international Denis Irwin was named in the PFA Division One XI. The Wolves defender made the move to Molineux in the summer after spending 13 successful seasons at Manchester United.

Cardiff City's Dublin-born midfielder Graham Kavanagh was included in the Division Two selection following his pivotal role in City's promotion push.
