Wins for Shels and Cork in eircom Premier

Shelbourne maintained their winning start to the new eircom League season with a 1-0 victory over Derry City at Tolka Park this evening. Close season signing Jason Byrne scored the vital goal with just four minutes on the clock and Pat Fenlon's men held out for a narrow win to keep them top on six points.

Elsewhere, Cork City scored a comprehensive 3-0 win over UCD at Belfield Park to climb to second in the table, two points behind Shels. John O'Flynn scored a hat-trick, breaking the deadlock after 32 minutes before adding another two just before the hour mark.

In the First Division, Bray Wanderers joined Dublin City on six points following their 2-1 success away to Limerick FC with first-half goals Eddie Gormley and Stephen Fox. Derek McCarthy pulled one back for the Shannonsiders 15 minutes from time.

Finn Harps climbed to third with a 2-0 home win over 10-man Kildare County, who had goalkeeper Wayne Russell dismissed with just 10 minutes gone. Niall Bonner opened the scoring after 23 minutes and Tom Mohan added the seconds on 87 minutes.
