A report in The Guardian newspaper suggests that Manchester United are prepared to pay Blackburn Rovers Stg10 million for Irish star Damien Duff.
Speculation is rife that Duff's anticipated arrival at Old Trafford in the summer would lead to Ryan Giggs leaving for Inter Milan. And a Duff move to Manchester may prompt Liverpool to look at Leeds' Harry Kewell. The Anfield club were reported to have turned down the chance to sign Kewell in January in the belief Duff would be joining them.
Meanwhile, United manager Alex Ferguson was reported to have asked his England players to give him an assessment of Turkish midfielder Nihat Kahveci in Wednesday's Euro 2004 qualifier at Sunderland. Ferguson's brother Martin has already watched 23-year-old Kahveci play for Spanish side Real Sociedad who have already denied United have made a bid.
