UEFA are to investigate the crowd trouble that marred Ireland's 2-1 win over Georgia in Tbilisi on Saturday. The body made special mention of an incident when Kevin Kilbane was apparently hit by a knife thrown from the crowd.
"UEFA will open a disciplinary investigation into events at the match between Georgia and the Republic of Ireland," said UEFA communications and public affairs director Mike Lee in a statement published on the UEFA website.
He added: "We have already examined the referee's report, which does refer in particular to an incident involving a pen-knife. UEFA will refer this matter to our disciplinary body for further action to be considered.
