Super Caley shock Bhoys in Scottish Cup

Super Caley went ballistic again tonight as Inverness Caledonian Thistle knocked Celtic out of the Scottish Cup for the second time in four seasons.

Dennis Wyness scored the only goal of the quarter-final at the Caledonian Stadium as the Division One club booked their place in the last four with a famous victory over Martin O'Neill's men.

Only four days ago Celtic had humbled Liverpool in the UEFA Cup at Anfield. Inverness also shocked Celtic in 2000 with a 3-1 win at Parkhead, to prompt the end of John Barnes reign as boss.

In the other quarter-final played today, Rangers had captain Barry Ferguson sent off as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Dunfermline in a stormy clash at East End Park this afternoon. The Scotland international was shown a straight red card for kicking Dunfermline's Irish substitute Noel Hunt after the pair had spent much of the second-half feuding.

David Grondin had fired the home side in front midway through the first-half when he latched onto a Craig Brewster lay-off to drill the ball low past Stefan Klos. Claudio Caniggia's equaliser eight minutes later dampened the Pars' hopes of a first win over Rangers since 1988 when the classy Ronald de Boer fed the ball beyond the home defence for the Argentinian to run on to and slot past the exposed Derek Stillie.

Former Shamrock Rovers striker Hunt was introduced in the second-half and, after a series of run-ins with Ferguson, the Rangers man was shown a straight red card for kicking out at him after some fine touchline skills two minutes from time.

The two sides will have to do battle all over again in an Ibrox replay.
